Now that my boys are growing up, you will read a lot of research articles and reviews on various entrance exams and coaching classes.
Today 29th April 2016, Supreme Court has given its green signal to NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) for all seats in colleges that conduct MBBS courses across India.
It will become the entry point for any student seeking admission to a medical college anywhere in India.
The Supreme Court has approved the schedule decided by the Centre, CBSE and the Medical Council of India (MCI). According to the order, the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) fixed for 1 May 2016 is to be treated as NEET-1.
The order had said those who had not applied for AIPMT will be given the opportunity to appear in NEET-II on 24 July 2016, and a combined result will be declared on 17 August 2016 so that the admission process can be completed by 30 September 2016.
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu have a large number of private and government run MBBS colleges. All these states conduct their own CET (Common Entrance Test) each year for the MBBS seats.
The Center is trying to combine all exams across various states into one single exam. This step should be welcomed by parents, students and schools as it drastically reduces the burden on the students appearing for MBBS tests. Until last year, they have to fill application forms for each entrance tests, spend money, prepare for each as they all have a slightly different pattern and then manage their travel and stays in various cities to give tests.
With the NEET into picture, students have to concentrate on subjects and concepts only. They do not need to worry about various exam dates, admit cards for numerous and test pattern.
Now, the question is if these states will keep quiet or contest the Supreme Court’s ruling? Obviously, it’s big loss to the states that were earning via the application fees for the CETs conducted within their own states.
May 1 st 2016 will be the first NEET test for MBBS. The next date for the same test will be on 24th July 2016. There are two dates as this Supreme Court ruling has come out so late today ie 29th April 2016.
The result will be out on 17th August 2016.
From next year, there will be on one test of NEET for MBBS.
This test will also hopefully curb corruption and donation system that were fleecing medical aspirants off Rs 30Lakhs to Rs 60 Lakh for an MBBS seat.
