By Madhurie Singh, March 17, 2019

Date February 2019.

Today I was approached by a good friend who is launching her first Primary school in Pune. Her name is Kavitha Krishnamurthy. Since I have been reading her posts on my Parents’ Group, I found her views pro parents and more importantly pro-children. So this post was commissioned by her to share the information about the school. This is not a review as it’s not possible to review a school that has is yet to start.

The School Name, Legacy, Board and Location

Infrastructure, Facilities and Activities

The school site is at Urali Devachi.

So I checked it out last week by driving all the way to the school construction site. I was at a wrong location though I followed the google maps route! Then called Kavitha, who sent the owner of the land to guide me to the site. Guess what, I was just one km away on a parallel road. 🙂 Usually, I prefer to check out school sites alone to get an independent view after chatting with the workers and supervisors.

The site foundation digging is done. Hopefully the structure for groundfloor will be ready by the first week of June 2019. The builders were quite sure so no worried there. The total area is one acre plus and there is more land available for future development.

12,000 sq feet of ground floor will be ready with pre-primary and primary classrooms along with the accounts & admission office, teachers room, counsellor’s room, infirmary, cafeteria, “Bramhasthaan” and the open playground.

Convertible classrooms – This is a new concept to make the best use of the layout nowadays. Classrooms have room separation doors placed such that they can be converted in large classrooms as and when required like theatre shows, story-telling sessions, culmination and other training days.

Smaller space rooms for pre-primary – Pre-primary classroom size is kept small to accommodate not more than 20 kids with a 1:5 teacher child ratio.

Open PlaygroundLike I said earlier, there is ample space for play area now and in future for sports like football, basketball and track and field events. The school is in talks with a sports management company which will have its specialized coaches comes to train children in their choice of sports and also take them to play ‘out of school’ matches.

The curriculum around sports also is very detailed such that in early primary grades children will be a part of all sports which will encourage participation and bring out the preference as well. In higher primary grades, children need to choose a minimum of 1 sport activity for which they will be coached on a next level and prepare them to play matches and tournaments. The secondary grade children will be coached well enough to represent at higher level tournaments. To encourage children to take up sports on a serious note, school will ensure that their academics is not affected in any way and tha will put in extra efforts for those children who have taken up sports to the next level.

Safety – Safety is ensured by CCTV across the span of the school along with vigilant teachers.

Extra Curricular – In the name of extracurricular 6 events throughout the year will be planned aimed at bringing out the talent inside of each child.

  • October – Creativity exhibition – Children will be prepared for this through the arts & crafts sessions.
  • November – Sports day – Children will be prepared for this through the PT and special coaching sessions.
  • December – Chef weekend – Children will be prepared for this through the cooking sessions.
  • January – Contribution to society – Children will be prepared for this through the life skill sessions.
  • February – Performing arts – Children will be prepared for this through the dance and drama sessions.
  • March –  Exploration fair – Children will be prepared for this through the daily learning sessions.

Transport

The school plans to provide transport through an external vendor. The parent can choose to consider the same however the parent has the option to use a transport facility of their choice as well. The school will have a transport co-ordinator for the transport facility provided by the school and the responsibility of transport lies with the vendor.

Fee

The fee at first seems quite huge considering the age, legacy, and branding. Yet its quite competitive considering teacher-child ratio of 1:5 that no other school provides. The fee is broken up into tuition fee and facility fee. The facility fee includes the school uniform, the school bag, the year long text books, note books, workbooks and stationery. It also includes all the travel and other events fees. The tuition fee is to be paid in 4 equal instalments mentioned at the time of admission. Parents will have to contribute in the form of home recyclable materials when asked for.

My initial verdict of the school is based Only on the founder Kavitha Krishnamurthy’s past experience and efforts. This school seems to be an All-encompassing package to make a happy child.
