Hi Debashish, I have not done the analysis of how many engg / doc from a school in Pune yet, though I do plan to do it , so not a stupid query. But yes judging a school only by that factor is stupid. I use 20 factors to conclude, and this is one last point in my list. Though I do plan to study the engg / doc thing in future.
Which Gurukul? MIT, Express? Check the poll list and may be u will get an idea which is popular in which area?

Hi Madhuri,

I know this post of mine may sound little surprising but this is because of school I come from. Which school in pune has the most number of engineers passed out. I know this is very stupid question but staying in bokaro which has 5 best schools of the country and schools there are judged by this.

I would also like to know how good is Gurukul. I stay in Baner so can you suggest some good schools there. I have heard Vidhya Valley is very good school. I came to know that Loyla is also very good but people are saying its not as good as it used to be. I wuld prefer a CBSE/ICSE board. Please suggest.

a) Yes, even a day is not allowed unless not a good school !
b) That ’s looking for Montessori kind of school or IB school. All playschools teach caps and small letters before kids reach LKg here!
CBSE /ICSE both good for diff reasons. You must go through my blogs on which education board to choose and how to choose a good school.

I was planning to move to Pune next year. I have a daughter who is currently studying in Pre-kg in a school in Bangalore. I have a couple of generic queries ..Let me know what you think ?

a)My daughter will be 4 next March. While going through your website I found that lot of schools in Pune expect kids to be around 5.5 by June to join UKG. She will fall short by about 2 months. Will this be acceptable?

b) I am interested in schools that have the following model of education (Since her current school follows this model and a similar model will help her continuity )
* School should not start writing alphabets until LKG
* In the Pre-KG to UKG level concentration is more on the quality of learning rather than quantity. Hence, effectively the students when they complete their UKG may not necessarily have learnt tables and multiplication but would have had a strong foundation in letters, numbers, counting, adding, analytical and logical skills.
* Preferably do not start on second language in UKG.
Which schools would you recommend (either CBSE or ICSE is fine).

Great job Sreelekha, I will find out when I am free from school admissions. I think it’s a great idea. I have just seen their site. My kids used to go for Global Arts. The fee seems nominal but but I do not know about the course or it’s efficacy. Will it be beneficial? Of course, all these courses are like supplementary food to brain. A lot depends on the trainers ability to teach.

I have been browsing this site since a month and have recently registered as a memeber. I must say it is too good! Your candid opinion about everything is a boon to Mom’s like us. I wanted to know if you have any information about the Accelerated Mental Learning (AMAL)course that SIP Academy is conducting. I was quite impressed by the course structure and the advantages of the course which develops the all round personality of the child. I have enquired about their franchisee in Wanowrie and found that the course duration is 9 months with a fee structure of 6200. I wanted to enroll my 5 year old for this. Please let me know if you have any idea about this and if it is really beneficial.

Dear sizzler9,no the fee does not change if ur kid not Indian citizen, but if you continue to enjoy the NRI status or dual citizenship, then I think the fee is higher for NRI kids. Check with Ms Tresa for DPS. Hehe u ruled out all the most. Yes Pawar Public School is close to KalyaniNagar. A school by Sri Ram’s (Delhi) is coming up near mundhwa, but will take 2 yrs max. Dear Lux, I am glad you mentioned all these points. If you read my review on How to choose a good school in Pune, you will find most of these points are my criteria too which I am trying put across parents before selecting a school.
My effort is to place everything as I see and judge based on these very similar points you are concerned. But when one selects a school finally, one has to compromise on board, distance, activities, etc based on many factors. Many parents have enquired about Vikhe Patil and being no1 in the poll also shows it’s popularity.
Also remember, a few schools are good in marketing than others which you need to be wary off.
I’m glad u are positive views abt the school, will share mine after I review it soon. Regards, keep sharing

Please let me know whatever knowledge you have on admission process of Hutchings school.
In Nov 2009 I submitted the Admission Form for Pre-Nursery batch, while taking the form they did not charge anyone Rs 200 saying that it will be charged once the interview is scheduled. Now when I check the website it simply says that Admission list will be available in 1st week of February. Absolutely no details as to when the interviews/other processes will be scheduled etc.

I did call up the Admin department of Hutchings but as usual the lady answered curtly that check the school website even before understanding my query.

Its good that you reviewed the highest vote getter- Magarpatta School. Nxt school seems to be VPMS.

When I started my mission of scouting for best school for my daughter I had certain points in my mind to zero down on particular school.
1. Board (CBSE or ICSE)
2. Co-ed (I preffered co-ed)
3. Activities in school. How they are fairing in that? (CCA’s r v.imp)
4. Teaching Methodology (sdn’t be boring n use new technology)
5. Results of 10th / 12th exams.(pass %) (Ultimately it matters d most)
6. Rules & Regulations (V. IMP)
7. English Communication (need of the hour)
8. Presence in Media (News of excellence in sports/ other activities)(Proof of doing extra-ordinary)
9. Participation of school in various competitions etc.(confidence booster)
10. Pressure of HW or Exams (they hv 1 paper in 15 days n not typical 6 days continue exams period- NO pressure)

As a parent I considered 3,4,5,9, 10 are very strong points to judge any school apart from its BRAND. Some schools have very good Brand but at actual they are not living to thr name. (reviews directly from MOM’s)

One more thing, I also considered the school who will foster the sense of down-to-earth feeling and put compulsion of participation in all CCA’s and encourage working together as a group (unison activities).

Madhurie I would like you to review schools more on these aspects. My idea of reviewing school would be on abv. points. Hope u will consider this as a friendly suggestion and motherly concern.

Since, the next on Review list seems to be VPMS, where I strongly want my daughter to be “IN” as the main points I mentioned abv are fulfilled by VPMS.

One more thing IM really surprised dat inspite of VPMS being the “News-Maker”(News published in leading English dailies abt VPMS in excellence in skating, football, science olympiad etc,) the school is lacking parents preference on ur site. Is that so? I hv literally ’scanned’ VPMS b4 taking a final decision.

Looking forward to ur reply on this.

I m currently stayin in US and wish to relocate next year.Im planning to put my daughter who is 20 mnths old in an ICSE board school.As per ur website St marys and Vibgyor high seem to be some good options.We would be stayin in Kalyaninagar.Are there any other schools that we should try for and also wanted to get a feel about the fee structure of St marys.

My daughter is a US citizen would the fee change in that respect too.

Thanks for the appreciation , U want to turn me into a beetroot ? Infact I was feeling bad for not responding to ur queries as on one side my son’s are at home with their exams frm Mon onwards and on da other hand, I just managed to submit Question paper for my PGDM/MBA students.
Sanskriti is quite far from the main city. So be ware that its not physically possible for kids to travel more than 30 min every day one way. Unless u plan 2 live in chandnichowk.

Sanskriti school is Quite good, excellent infrastructure and in serene mountains near to Chandni Chowk, CBSE school, even the teaching staff is good. My sis did visit it last month and was quite impressed with it, lots of extra activities as well, only thing they take more than 50K in donation. If that doesn’t hurt u then it’s good.

BG Academy is on the verge on getting extinct, hardly 10 students per class , I had heard that last year they had just 3 students in 10th std so better to stay away.

i could’nt find any proper blog to pos my qery under so writing here.
my son who is 3years and 4 months hardly liusten to us or anyone..i would say he just ignores us and does whtever he njoys or feels like doing .we have to repeat him twice or thrice for anythng not th he is a spoiled bra kinds.
and i analysed tht this happened in DPS interaction round as well.he does’nt go to school as well(probebly thts why he is not tht deciplined).
i don’t believe in spanking or picking up sticks every now and then….but have to do something coz i don’t want this behaviour to hinder again in his next interview or interaction in other schools.
i need your suggetions to improve his listening and make him lill behaved.

Hi Madhurie,
Let me thank you first or putting up this website. Below are the details of problems I am facing right now w.r.t school admissions -

1)I have 2 daughters 4.5 (LKG)and 2.5 yrs(playgroup) each , both go to kangaroo kids koregaon park
2)Right now there are absolutely no vacancies for UKG admission in any schools? I have having sleepless nights because of this, whereas for my younger one I have applied in every possible school
3)Whenever I enquire for UKG admission in any school only reply that I get is it will be only against any vacancies if at all available. My elder daughter is quite bright child who can even write her entire name by herself- this is something she has learnt herself by just asking us spellings.
4)Some how in Pune schools they don’t prefer giving admissions for kids of Working mom- I don’t know what they are trying to preach by doing this. Even girl’s school have this attitude which is absolutely out of sync with today’s world.

This is something unrealistic about Pune schools, there is high handedness in dealing with anxious parents.

Only school right now which has vacancy is Lexicon Internantional school and I am not sure how that school is.

Thanks huhaz19 . DPS is an excellent school but by no means will they take the admission fee twice! I think ur friend got confused. It’s not true. Admission fee can be taken only once.
But if ur child moved to another DPS school to a diff city, then fresh admission fee is applicable.:)

Hi Madhurie ji,

Your work is truly remarkable and i like the way you respond to the queries of all concerned parents.

I will apply in DPS school for Prep when the admission will arise and i have got one question which has become a concern for me and that is about the fees.

Someone told me that when you get admission in Prep you have to pay around 70K approx. including everything. Now that is ok with us, but i was told that when your child goes to class 1 again you have to pay the same amount which is 70K. Now please clear my confusion whether they charge the same amount when your child goes to class 1 from prep or is it one time payable because in the form it is clearly mentioned that this amount is one time and payable at the time of admission.

Hi Madhurie,

I am staying in Pimple Saudagar (Near to Pune) and I am looking for Std 1 (girl)admission in coming session. I have shortlisted following schools:
Vidya Valley, St Mary’s, St Helena’s, St Anne’s, DAV, Blossom Wakad, Indira School Wakad, Gurukul Law College, St Joseph’s Pashan, Hutchings and Rosary. I am not having specific preference for board(CBSE/ICSE) and whether it is Co-ed or girls. My preference is the good school having fees in the range of 30K annually. Also I am staying in a rented house so I can change the house but I’ll prefer I get some bus (whether school managed or provate) facility. Can you please suggest me accordingly and when the forms will be available.

Dear Madhurie,
Even I want to know about Magarpatta School. My son is 5 years old and we owns an apartment in Magarpatta city.We are planning to come back in May 2010 to India. I tried to enquire through phone as currently I am in USA, the lady was insisting on coming personally to see the notice ( Not even for talk/enquiry). I visited India Last year and it seems there is no enquiry person allocated. Only thing available is notice broad. If we have any other questions…..there’s no way we can reach to them…….How to select Magarpatta City school if we don’t have any knowledge about school / staff / curriculum….all the aspects you have mentioned!……….?

I have few questions for you…. Your guidance will be much appreciated…

I will be shifting to Kondhwa area soon. My son will be 4 yrs 6 months on 1 June 2010 (Birth date 20/11/2005).

I was planning to put him Bishops Camp, but came to know that, my son is just 1 month older so can’t be admitted to LKG(3.6 to 4.5). What shall I do now? Will they consider the exception if I meet them personally?
I am not too much inclined towards ICSE but since Bishops is a good school I was looking towards it.

Please suggest me some good CBSE / ICSE schools near Kondhwa and Camp.

Hi Aastha, Ur daughter is too young. Try Kider Brook as of now. Till she is 3.5yrs. Then you should try for other schools in Nursery or LKg. Aman Setu is good, but too far for a small baby for long hours. Also read a recent comment in the forum about Aman Setu. Tk Care

My daugther shall be 2 by December 2009. I have no much clarity about the age criteria of pre-nursery, for schools like DPS and St. Mary’s follow.

firstly i really want to congratulate and thank you for starting such a wonderful site…it is absolutely a blessing for all parents like us…. its not been very long since we came to pune….and so i dont know much abt schools and admissions here… my daughter was born in january 2008… and i was confused that is she eligible for nursery school starting in june 2010…. and that should i admit her now in kider brook, vimannagar for playgroup… pls help…also i am very impressed with aman setu….so when can i look out for my daughters admission there….thanks again…

Hi Santosh, I know for sure it’s very difficult to get through a school which starts from Nursery. As these same kids move on to LKg and only when there is a transfer case that your kid will get a chance. If you can why not try this year itself. I did this mistake with my elder son and really was disappointed as no school even opened up for admission in UKg. I know DAV is overcrowded and cramped school. I do not have any idea about the other two schools.

My daughter born on 23rd oct 2006, falling short by 23 days, hence i could not able to get admission in DPS for Nursry. I liked DPS very much.

So what option left for me to get in to DPS? Shall i again try for next year for again for NURSERY in DPS, what is your suggestion.

Dear USONTHAL, I guess with your needs, International schools are most suited. They have curriculum that’s on par with other countries’. Also they have few students (some times so few that I wonder hoe they play any team game:)).
I liked Sharad Pawar International School a lot. But fee is high. I would rate it ahead Symbiosis International School in terms of faculty and being closer to International standards. It’s near airport.

AT Aundh area, Vidya Valley is good. I do not like DAV pune but otherwise DAV’s in other cities are always amongst top schools. Orchid is another school but I have not been there.

It’s time to go to these schools.:)

There is Gurukul Express too CBSE close to your area.

Hi Sowmya, Your kids are very small for JKg. I would suggest you keep them wherever they are, if that’s a good school. ( I have not read or heard or felt anything good about Eurokids till now. But different branches have different reputations.)
Next year same time you can try for all schools. I am glad you are getting into the process this early, you tensions will be low next year.

I have 2.2 year old twin boys. They r currently going to eurokids Is there any school for them other than bishops kalyaninagar (bishop camp does not have pre kg) and hutchings. Actually we were interested in CBSE board, but due to their age we will not be able to try for another year. What do u suggest, put them in any school they get through or wait for one more year?

Why don’t you try at DPS for Nursery = JKg. She is perfect age. Also it’s best CBSE school in Pune.
St Mary’s is excellent for ICSE and close to your home. Pawar Public school is also close to your home. Pls read my articles in page School Reviews you should get a lot of info.

St Mary’s written test pattern is very simple, which most playschools cover in nursery.

Your blog is amazing and I don’t know how to thank you for documenting your perspective on such important topics. Please keep doing it when you find time from your busy life!

BTW, we are in process of moving to Aundh/surrounding area from California, US in next summer.
For this we are visiting pune in December to look out for schools and propspective residential properties.

Though originally we are from Mumbai, we prefer Pune because of its smaller size, better weather and growing IT industry.

We have two young boys who will be going to 5th and 3rd grade from June.
We haven’t decided on which board we’ll them go. We are leaning more towards International schools but we are still open to other ideas.
Essentially we are looking for a school with small class size, caring school teacher/principal and well balanced academic and extra curricular activities and good facilities.
I’m not sure if it is too much to ask but that’s what would be our ideal school.

We heard about Loyola but I’m worried about the big class size. Gurukul seems like other option but it has long school hours.
Which schools do you recommend in the Aundh area (International/CBSE/ICSE/or any other)?

Our daughter – Jinisha was born on 26-11-2006 will be 3.7 years in June-10.

We stay in Vishrantwadi and would like your suggestions on few good CBSE or ICSE schools in Pune that are not more than 10-12 kms from Vishrantwadi.

Hi Madhurie, I would like to thank you for your advice on trying for admission in Pawar Public School . I have got admission for my son there . He was asked to appear for an exam post which the PPS called us to complete the process . I am thinking that i continue there till next session and then look at St Marys again in new session . What would you advise ? I was also thinking of Aman Setu maybe next year . Though the concept of Aman Setu looks good but not sure if its too early for them and should give more time to settle down . Thanks again for all your suggestions . I think you are doing a great job by having this site and helping out parents like me.

I am looking for some information/reviews/pros n cons on ‘Victorious kidss educares’, but coudn’t find any. I wanted to know about the kind of education provided in this school along with it’s fee structure and age criteria.

I am really impressed by all your research and the help you are
providing to all the parents.

My name is Dr. Amrita and currently we are looking for a good school
which ideally should be closer to Kharadi (our residence) though we
can change it if required.

Initially we only had St. Mary and Vincent in our mind for our son.
Now after reading your blogs and various inputs, we feel CBSE board
should be our top priority thus DPS and then ICSE (St. Mary, Vibgyour or Bishop).

He is currently going in Primrose for his nursery.

Can you advise please whether DPS is good and what are his chances of getting admission there ? If you have any questions and interview
process that will be very helpful for us. Also how difficult is it to get admission for nursery and is the house location one of the
deciding factors for admission ? since we can show multiple addresses
all other criteria identified by you seem to match our profile
e.g. Dad in IT, professional mom taking care of baby rather than
agressively work oriented….

My daughter is 2.7 yrs n attends a preschool in kondwa… i really wish to put her in St Marys next yr June 2010 She will be eligible for Pre primary…..
my queries are as follows:
1) Does every applicant stands a chance for an interview.
2) Is the child interviewed or just observed…
3) Does being in a playschool like step by step or primrose increase the chances to get into St Marys?
4) Any special preparations for parents?
5) Incase she does not get thru this yr is it worth to wait for a year more…. or try simultaneously in other schools…. pls advice.
6) Is it purely luck or merit…..
Pls provide more info reg St Marys as possible for u and pls advice am quite tense as nov is approaching…

Madhurie, We are actually looking across all directions of Pune for the property. Apart from a reasonably good neighbourhood, budget etc, one of our other main criteria is that it should have good accessibility to a good school(preferably ICSE or CBSE) with at max 7 to 8 km from the school. We had considered viman nagar earlier. Now we are also looking at Baner-Pashan link road. I think Sus is close around 3 to 4 km to this place and vidya valley is in Sus. In one of the comments on your site I read that you were praising vidya valley and saying that you would send your kids here if you resided closer here. So thats why I enquired.
