How I wish to spread this concept of SuperIndianKid to all the cities and schools in India.
I spoke to film maker Sharad Navale today and was extremely thankful for the time we talked over the phone. I like people who know their subject thoroughly and also guide people to the right direction.
After discussing with him I realized I have no knowledge about film making.
And I did not have any passion to be one. So I will have to depend on him and lot many people to help me in my venture.
He mentioned that before starting to spend money on the expensive HD quality movie which is what Discovery Channel accepts, it would be a good idea to first get their approval.
He also suggested that I could use a lesser expensive camera to shoot the daily activities and make a documentary which can then be used to show to schools etc to promote the concept.
I think that was a fair amount of information he shared with me.
I have written to Mr Sudesh Kumar of Discovery Channel India, who sits in Delhi office.
Dear Mr Sudesh,
I am Mrs Madhurie Singh, based at Pune, India.
I am a school and educational product reviewer. I also conduct workshops for parents on various parenting needs.
In the last few years, I have discovered that Indian parents are becoming over ambitious and wish to transform their kids into super kids.
Academics at school is not enough for these parents and they pressurize their kids to take classes on various activities. And the strange reasons of sending their kids to join activities are like,
1. The activity center being close to their house.
2. Their friend’s child is going.
3. The fee for an activity is affordable.
4. One of the parents wanted to become a dancer and hence wishes to see that their child takes up dancing
and so on..This has led to an unreasonable level of stress and pressure on the lives of kids and parents. The kids are committing suicide as they are not able to live up to their parent’s or school’s expectations.
There have been 25 suicides in just 15 days before the results of Xth std was to be declared in Mumbai.I have realized that someone has to do something and have planned this concept, which I am 100% positive, will be a starting point in venting out stress from Indian kids and parents.
We are starting a center where kids will be assessed on their Strengths and Weaknesses, their Likeness and Dislikeness, their IQ and their 8 Intelligence levels.
Each kid is born with intelligences. We believe that in schools only Linguistic and Logical Intelligence are assessed. In case a child is below average in these two, the school will label the the child as a failure. But since out of 8, there are 6 more intelligences that he might possess above average levels, he might actually be successful in non academic areas without stressing out.The kids will go through 2 hours of 50 activities, for three months, based on these 8 intelligence along with the teaching methodologies like that in Gurukuls.
The activities are in the range of football, karate, yoga, tennis, kathak dance, ball room dance, painting, drawing, tabla, harmonium, singing, story telling, chess, solving puzzles etc.At the end of the 3 months, the kids will be assessed again, based on the various tests and the video which will capture the kids’ expressions for all 3 months. The trainers will be assessing the kids daily and writing down their observations. All the inputs will be together used to derive to one or two activities that the child is interested, has aptitude/intelligence and has a passion to follow it whole heartedly. Never at any point the children will be forced to participate without their wishes or be known to them that they are being assessed.
Based on this information the parents can then judiciously plan to encourage their kid in that particular activity which may become his source of living too in future.
My deepest desire is to relieve the pressure and see no child committing suicide because of lack of awareness or because of confused parents.
I am sure this concept will work. But wish that more and more people, cities and schools adopt it in either the same way or with any change they wish to incorporate.I am starting my first batch on 2nd March 2010 with 10 kids as an experiment. Parents have booked my center for next three batches. So I have a feeling that all parents were waiting for something like this to be available.
I do not have the funds to create awareness alone. But I could think of only one media that I believe will help spread the awareness about this concept. I am not keen on any financial gain, as long as the stress is vented out of our society.
Kindly reply back with your views and comments.
I am all set to make a documentary for Discovery channel for this noble cause.
I am waiting for a positive reply.
Meanwhile I do plan to get going with an economical version of the documentary for the local audiences.
